Choosing the right grade
Steel wool grades offer different levels of abrasion. Grade #000 sits between #00 Very Fine and #0000 Super Fine. A finer grade can help you work more gradually, but it can still scratch or alter a finish. Check the surface manufacturer’s care instructions before choosing an abrasive, especially when working around coatings, polished surfaces, or delicate materials.
If you are unsure which grade to use, start with the least abrasive option recommended for the job. More pressure does not necessarily produce a better result. Work carefully, inspect the surface frequently, and stop if you notice an unwanted change in appearance.
Before you begin
